From http://www.annualcreditreport.com , you can get your free credit report (all Americans are entitled to one free credit report within a 12-month period from each of the three agencies) , but not credit scores. Credit scores are available as an add-on feature of the report, for a nominal fee. This central site is the official one to request for a free credit file disclosure, commonly called a credit report, from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.

Go to annualcreditreport.com
That is the official site that is maintained by all three of the credit bureaus. You are allowed one free report each year from each of them. You can do them all at once or do them sporadically throughout the year.
Here the catch, however. There is a difference between your credit report and your credit score. The credit report will show what is out there under your name as far as credit cards, loans, etc. If you really want to see the actual score you are going to have to pay for it.

freecreditreport.hotusa.org – try this site. I use it to monitor my credit and also cleaned off some bad items from my credit report. You can apply for free initial plan and get your scores and reports for free.
