The official site is annualcreditreport.com. That is the only official site. Other sites that claim to give you a free credit report will require you to make some other type of purchase.
Warning: When using the web to get your free credit report, it is best to use the phone numbers or addresses provided and request the reports from each of the three credit bureaus (they may contain different information since some creditors only belong to one of the other) rather than download the information. Before you can download the information, you must check the agreement that commits you to arbitration and waives your right to sue should the credit bureau(s) violate any provision of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Needless to say, arbitration in an out-of-state area, is not going to be in your best interest should a violation occur. The waiver, in fact, may encourage sloppiness on the part of the bureau.

Contact each reporting agency individually. They are transunion, equifax and experian. http://www.transunion.com http://www.equifax.com http://www.experian.com

The best website is http://www.annualcreditreport.com. NO credit cards needed, but you will need to know some of your personal credit data- such as old addresses, banks dealt with, etc. You can get all 3 credit reports right from here. Good luck, and enjoy.

The base report is free, this is the only real site to get your legally obligated free annual report.
You will, however, have to pay to see your scores.
