Do You Think That You Should Be Able To Review Your Credit Report For Free?
If some strangers are going to keep tabs on my financial activity, then I most certainly think I should be able to see it free of charge.
Yes, they have so-called free credit report services. Ummm, but they’re not free.

You are entitled to see a free copy of your report from all three services once a year. All you have to do is contact them and request it.

You can get a free peek once a year. My own view is that anytime someone gets a credit report on you, you should get a copy.

AnnualCreditReport.com is the only government approved site to receive your free credit reports.
Under the FACT Act you’re allowed one free report per bureau, once every 12 months.
It is free; no sign up for monitoring services or credit card required.
However, your score is not free but is available for purchase once you’re accessed the free report.
Leo is misinformed, it does not take 7-10 days to receive this information or you have to ‘jump through hoops’.
Access to your reports is instantaneous.

By federal law, you get one free credit check per year. Go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com. It is free!

The US Government has mandated that the three major credit bureaus offer the service to everyone in the United States once each year. The name of this site is http://www.annualcreditreport.com.
Since it is government mandated it requires a whole host of hoops to jump through. You do not actually get your credit scores, and it can take 7-10 days to receive the information. All in all not very consumer friendly. Guess that is what happens when a big company is required to do something they do not want to do.
Here is how I got my Credit Report and Score from all 3 bureaus for free.
I went to http://faqfaq.net/FreeCreditReport.html and signed up for their service.
It took like 3 minutes! They give you 7 Days for Free to try the service.
So I just canceled the next day after printing out everything I needed.
Easy and Free.

As everyone else has said, the law provides that you get one free credit check a year. You are also entitled to a free copy of your credit report whenever your are denied a loan/card/etc. due to your credit report.
Just an FYI–when a company runs a credit check on you, they pay for it as well. Whenever I took a mortgage application at my last job and ran a credit report, my employer paid $50 a pop.

When someone pulls your credit score, legally they have to send you a copy of it. Thats the only free way to do it.

In addition to the one you get free per year, if someone turns you down for credit, you can send a copy of the refusal letter to the credit bureau and get a copy of your report free. And you can do that as many times a year as it happens to you.

Q: How do I order my free report?
A: The three nationwide consumer reporting companies have set up a central website, a toll-free telephone number, and a mailing address through which you can order your free annual report.
To order, visit annualcreditreport.com, call 1-877-322-8228, or complete the Annual Credit Report Request Form and mail it to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281. The form is on the back of this brochure; or you can print it from ftc.gov/bcp/conline/edcams/credit. Do not contact the three nationwide consumer reporting companies individually. They are providing free annual credit reports only through annualcreditreport.com, 1-877-322-8228, and Annual Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281.
You may order your reports from each of the three nationwide consumer reporting companies at the same time, or you can order your report from each of the companies one at a time. The law allows you to order one free copy of your report from each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies every 12 months.
